I’ve discovered as I’ve gotten older is that stuff I hoped would get easier… hasn’t, at least not in the overall sense. What’s cool about the getting older, though, is that I’m more accepting of that fact than I would have been ten years ago, or even five. It pays to be more accepting of certain certainties.

My eldest leaves for Egypt in mid-January 2010. When he comes home in late June 2010, he’s here for a couple of weeks - perhaps until his 18th birthday - and then he leaves this home to live with his father in Chicago for a year. He’ll be working and pursuing his dreams.
I have to remember one doesn’t have to be 18 to do that.

I’m going to a friend’s baby shower later this morning. While I know most of the women my age who’ll be there - and even though I’ve known most of them for over ten years - I’m an outsider.
These went to college together, had boyfriends in bands together, got married together, and they all have young children and babies together. While this may sound like a sorority...
